The process of creating this book taught me so much. From the very beginning of this process researching such a broad subject I quickly found myself with a challenge to arrange the information in a way I could make meaningful. With the decision to use devotion as an organizational driver, I let that choice guide many of the other visual queues, like red being the main color. The red used within the book calls out to both the sentiment of love and vascularity that red inherently carries within it, but it also references an antiquity found in traditional printer's red. Refencing traditional book craft in this project was important as the subject of silver conveys so much in its history importance. With this in mind I made choices to capture a range of layout inspirations from antique to modern on a warm off-white paper stock with the art plate section being on high gloss, evoking the methods in which literature or scientific information was printed. The decision making at all stages on this book left me deeply proud of the knowledge I'd gained about book design as well as fabrication.
